Realtors who want great SEO, complete IDX results, and customization have been in a tough spot: you either had to:

• list listings individually;
• have all the IDX results on a subdomain;

Some of the downsides of using link shorteners are:

1. Google Analytics doesn’t always capture the original referrer (and I have no clue how they do the rest of the time!).
2. When generating links using the bookmarklet (or in this case, also the Yourls installation), there’s no easy way to add campaign, source, medium, content, and term tags for Google Analytics to track.
3. Yourls doesn’t allow query strings on URLs by default, making overriding existing campaign tags difficult/impossible. For example: http://katz.si/t?utm_source=2300

I’m not the only one who wanted these things, so I’ve created a plugin that adds Google Analytics tracking to Yourls. It’s very cool.

The plugin features include:

Define default tracking tags
You can define a set of default tags that are added to any link that gets shortened.

• utm_source
• utm_medium
• utm_name
• utm_term
• utm_content

Override existing tags - you can choose to have your tags replace tags in the long URL that’s being shortened…or not.

Tagging options added directly to the URL form – the best feature in my opinion, you now have an interface to easily add tracking right from the link shortener.

Add query strings to the shortened URL to override or add any tracking tags. This feature has support for abbreviations, too.

Plugin Installation

To install, follow these steps:

1. Download the file (updated to correct Github link)
2. Upload the google-analytics folder into your users > plugins directory
3. Go to your YOURLS plugins page
4. Hover over Google Analytics, click “Activate”
5. Configure the plugin settings by clicking the Google Analytics link in the menu

The plugin has shortcode support with the following setting options:

• size – Choose between large (default), small, and panoramic map sizes.
• title – Modify the text of the map heading.
• zip – Standard ZIP code
• city – Name of the city.
• state – Two-letter state abbreviation.
• rotate – How quickly, in seconds, do you want the listings to auto-rotate. Defaults to 0 (off).
• map_view – Choose between Map (map), Satellite (sat), or Hybrid (hyb) views for the map images.
• align – Align the map to the left, right, center, or none
  Note: uses WordPress CSS classes to achieve aligning; some themes may not support this.
• color – HEX value for map heading text color (#efefef, for example)
• bg - HEX value for map background color (#cccc33, for example)

Bit.ly is one of the most popular link shortening services, and rightly so: it is stable, easy to use, and has pretty looking statistics. One thing Bit.ly does not do is export data. There is simple no other Bit.ly exporter out there.

The Bit.ly Exporter plugin allows you to export up to three years of daily click data for your links. This allows you to analyse click data like you always wanted to! All you need is WordPress.

The SEO WordSpinner plugin does nothing illegal or immoral. The only “morality” issue may be that the plugin is at odds with Google policies…but why is WordPress equating “morality” with Google policy?

If you’ve ever tried to use WordPress’ built-in bookmarks / links manager, you know that its limits can be frustrating. One of the biggest issues I’ve encountered is that the link categories are not hierarchical.

Let’s say you have a tech blog and you link to a lot of pages about TV’s. You may want to categorize the links under TV > Plasma or TV > LCD. With the existing system, you cannot.

Enter the Hierarchical Link Categories plugin

Finally, with the new plugin by yours truly, you can create link categories that have parent categories. Blogroll categories can be nested, and the world breathes a sigh of relief.

What the plugin doesn’t do…yet:

• When you’re in the “Add Link” page, you cannot add a child category

Shopify is a great hosted eCommerce provider. WordPress is the best blogging platform.

I first learned about Shopify in 2007, and was very interested in their service: they take care of every aspect of an eCommerce shop, and you pay them monthly plus a little cut of your sales.

• Themes: Shopify has a great theme generator package that uses Ruby on Rails and it also has a theme store with tons of beautiful, standards-compliant themes.
• Apps: The Shopify App Store features free and paid applications that integrate using the Shopify API.
• Hosting: Shopify uses Rackspace and Akamai for hosting and as a CDN, respectively. Security, hosting, etc.
• …and tons of other features

I am still impressed with Shopify, but when I logged in recently to my Shopify account, I saw that Shopify’s “blogging” functionality is weak. Very weak. When I saw that there was an app to import a WordPress blog into Shopify, I laughed, and went ahead creating a Shopify importer for WordPress.

Import Shopify Products as Blog Posts

The Shopify Importer plugin is designed to make blogging about each of your products simple.

1. Export your products from Shopify (Go to Products, click on Export Products, then Export all products). This will save a CSV file to your computer.
2. In WordPress, go to Tools > Import. Click on Shopify.
3. Follow the instructions, select the CSV file from your computer
4. Click the Upload file and import button

When products are imported, the tags are converted to WordPress tags, vendors are converted to categories (if selected), and all the product information is stored as a Custom Field for the post or page.

• style – Three options exist: balls (yellow, red and green lottery balls with text numbers), numbers (circles with a gray border and images of numbers), or plain (simple text numbers; able to be styled using your own CSS). Default: balls
• link – Show a link to plugin page. To turn off, add link="false" or link="0" to the lottery shortcode. Default: true
